Sensing Components & Systems: Proximity Sensing

Proximity Sensing

Inductive proximity technology is the preferred means of providing high-reliability position sensing of aircraft mechanical systems. Because it is non-contact, 100% repeatable and is not affected by environmental conditions, proximity technology is ideally suited for harsh applications and severe environments such as those found on landing gear, doors, flight controls and engines.

Crane, with its ELDEC brand, is the industry leading supplier of inductive proximity sensing technology. Our products include both rugged proximity sensor and switch components, as well as complete proximity sensing systems which can reliably monitor and control these mechanical systems.

Proximity Sensing Components & Systems

A proximity sensing system consists of passive proximity sensors and remote electronics. The electronics provide the excitation signal for the sensors, and communicate the position status of various mechanical systems that use the sensors - such as landing gear, doors or flight controls - to other aircraft systems which need this information. The electronics themselves can be configured as modules or dedicated line replaceable units (LRUs) in order to support a variety of different system architectures and users.

Crane proximity sensors and proximity sensing systems are proven on many large commercial, regional, business and military aircraft worldwide. From design through certification, and continuing with in-service support, Crane has the experience to configure a system to meet your specific application. For applications that don’t require customization, we have a comprehensive line of time-tested, off the shelf proximity sensors and switches.
