Boeing ecoDemonstratorBy configuring cabin seating on a singular network and using predictive seat data, Crane A&E is aiming to provide an innovative solution to airlines using its mcX seat actuation system.

The system and its connected capability will be featured on Boeing’s ecoDemonstrator, which recently won an Aviation Week Laureate Award for extraordinary achievements in aerospace in the Commercial Aviation Sustainability category.

Crane A&E is partnering with seat manufacturer, Adient, to showcase the mcX system’s capability, and the ecoDemonstrator is an exceptional testing space. The goal of Boeing’s ecoDemonstrator program is to accelerate innovation by taking promising technologies out of the lab and testing them in-flight to solve challenges for airlines, passengers and for the environment.

“Crane is pleased to partner with Adient Aerospace to showcase our versatile mcX system on Boeing’s ecoDemonstrator program,” said Chris Cook, Vice President and General Manager of Crane Aerospace & Electronics Cabin Systems. “Our innovative mcX seat actuation system provides connected-cabin functionality with application capability that enhances maintenance efficiency and preserves seat health. Our mcX system seamlessly supports a connected cabin and is the latest example of Crane A&E’s desire to provide innovative solutions for our valued industry partners.”

The mcX system, when linked to Boeing’s onboard system, will generate seat health data that can tell maintenance staff when repair is needed. Moving a step further, the system also can provide predictive data so a unit can be repaired before failure, in theory allowing all seats on a flight to be ticketed.

Crane A&E previously partnered with Adient Aerospace to provide innovative seat actuation for Adient’s Ascent™ business class seats in 2018.
