Crane A&E FLEXTech High-Accuracy, CAN Output Proximity Sensor

A&E's New High-Accuracy, CAN Output Proximity Sensor Simplifies Architecture with CAN Data Bus Connectivity and Absolute Gap Measurement

Crane Aerospace & Electronics has developed a revolutionary family of proximity sensors using its new Crane® FLEXtech technology that will support a wide-range of aerospace customer applications. Crane A&E’s new High-Accuracy, CAN Output Proximity Sensor is the first sensor within the Crane FLEXtech product portfolio.

For decades, Crane A&E has provided high-accuracy and reliable sensing solutions to a global customer base. The High-Accuracy, CAN Output Proximity Sensor builds on A&E’s rich heritage and delivers customers a next-generation active sensor that supports direct data bus connectivity and absolute gap measurement.

"We are proud to deliver this latest sensing solution to our customers. Our newest high accuracy proximity sensor provides absolute position measurement and communicates directly via CAN bus protocol enabling a simplified connected aircraft architecture."

— Hilary King, Crane A&E VP & GM, Sensing & Power Systems

Crane A&E’s High-Accuracy, CAN Output Proximity Sensor simplifies a customer’s product architecture by reducing wiring installation and saving weight. Its CAN bus connectivity feature permits direct connection to aircraft avionics systems and supports a connected aircraft.

Traditional proximity sensors and switches are used to detect a near-far relationship between the sensor and the actuating mechanism. The High-Accuracy, CAN Output Proximity Sensor provides absolute position and can communicate that information via CAN bus. Access to this information is vital for traditional aircraft, as well as UAV or UAMs and the emerging electrification of these platforms. Obtaining precise positioning also provides proactive warnings and supports prognostics systems. This enhances operators’ maintenance systems and optimizes efficiencies.

“We are proud to deliver this latest sensing solution to our customers,” said Hilary King, Crane A&E VP & GM, Sensing & Power Systems.  “Our newest high accuracy proximity sensor provides absolute position measurement and communicates directly via CAN bus protocol enabling a simplified connected aircraft architecture.”
