Crane Aerospace & Electronics Selected to Provide Braking and Antiskid Control System for Airbus A400M

LYNNWOOD, Wash. – March 1, 2005 – Crane Aerospace & Electronics, a Crane Co. segment, has been selected by EADS CASA, Madrid, Spain, to develop the Braking and Antiskid Control System for the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft.

The A400M Braking and Antiskid Control System will be an advanced brake-by-wire system that will interface with the aircraft Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) architecture. The benefits of this system include optimum braking performance combined with weight savings and excellent fault tolerance.

Ray Boushie, President and CEO of Crane Aerospace & Electronics, stated, “Our contract for the braking and antiskid control system with EADS CASA is very significant as it represents the first application of our proven brake control technology on an Airbus aircraft. With the strict requirements for braking in a very short distance, we are especially proud to have been chosen as the brake control supplier for this aircraft. The A400M will benefit from our long history of brake control on large aircraft of this type.” The A400M has to be able to land in a very short distance, about 550 meters, which means a deceleration force of up to 0.50 g, versus an average of 0.30 for a commercial jet. Airbus projects first flight of the A400M in 2008 with first deliveries in 2009.
