Log Amplifiers

Signals that are modulated and transmitted present a challenge to receive and demodulate. The process of modulation and transmission result in large changes in signal intensity. Logarithmic were developed to deal with the large signal intensity (dynamic range) differences. Signals varying from as high as 20 milliwatts (+13dbm) to as low as 1 picowatt (-90dbm) can be effectively processed by these devices. The Olektron HCL series of log amplifiers uses precision laser trimmed gain stages with a patented detected summing scheme that results in excellent stability over temperature. The MCWL series uses a patented self detection circuit which results in low phase shift of the IF output dynamic range and full wave detection that gives fast pulse rate. (A large variety of custom and standard designs are available.)
