Control Cables Product Description

Control Cables Mechanical controls allow actuation of the seat recline mechanism from remote locations anywhere in the seat or seat arm sections.

These easy-to-install, easy-to-use controls provide complete reliable actuation. Many seat designs have tortuous routing paths and restricted passageways, particularly in the armrest sections. This design features extremely flexible, kink resistant cable for difficult mounting situations, resulting in very low friction and subsequently very low actuation forces.

Many customers use the mechanical control to actuate their own unique hardware. There are several push button and lever type input actuators as well as several varieties of output end configurations available. The Mechanical Control consists of an input end, an output end and a cable conduit assembly connecting the two ends. This compact design incorporates features that significantly minimize the need for cable readjustment during normal use.

Features and Benefits

  • Minimal output travel loss
  • Special construction of cable minimizes "lengthening" in folding arm rest applications
  • Requires low input force
  • Ability to add machined aluminum adjusters to the control for easy adjustments of cable length

Cable Conduit Assembly

  • Special stainless steel 7 x 7 cable provides low-friction, high strength and long life
  • Three ply construction conduit -- withstand server abuse
  • High cable conduit flexibility for ease of routing
  • Self-lubricated lining, even though the end fittings, protects against cable wearing away
  • Die cast ball holds high pull-off load
  • Different configuration ferrule meets different application needs

Principle of Operation

When the input end of the mechanical control is actuated (lever or push button), the internal cable is pulled and transfers the motion to effectively close the output end lever actuating the Hydrolok or customer's unique hardware. When the input is released, a return spring restores the control assembly to its original position.

Input Type I: Push Button & Escutcheon

  • "Snaps" easily into armrest with simple push-type action
  • Maximum cable pull capability of 0.25 inches
  • Ability to change thickness and depth of input end to accommodate thickness of mounting panel
  • Uses a "Push-to-Release" spring clip or a "snap-on" for installation of input end to mounting panel
  • "Push-to-Release" spring clip permits simple and fast removal of push button and escutcheon from armrest without special tools
  • Many different sizes and colors available to suit specific application design requirements
  • Commonly used to actuate P.L. Porter Hydrolok

Input Type II: Lever

  • Maximum cable pull capabilities of 0.375 inches
  • Available with 2 or 3 mounting holes
  • Commonly used to actuate P.L. Porter Mechlok (MM20 & MM85)

Input Type III: Lever

  • Uses a "snap-on" input for low cost
  • Maximum cable pull capability of 0.75 inches
  • Cable conduit (single or dual) is glued into the escutcheon for low cost
  • Commonly used to actuate P.L. Porter Mechlok (MM55 & MM65)

  • Cable positioning feature assures non-slip/non-shear clamping
  • Self-locking find adjustment is fully visible and easily accessible
  • Available in aluminum or zinc die cast

Three basic types:

  • MC15 (A) - Uses a set screw to attach to V groove or Hydrolok for installation; available in zinc die cast
  • MC21 (B) - Easily adjustable; push on spring clip for easy installation with Hydrolok; available in aluminum die cast
  • MC74 (C) - One piece plastic output structure for low cost; uses a "snap-on" installation of input end to mounting panel
