Crane Aerospace & Electronics to demonstrate new Smartstem technology at MRO Middle East

LYNNWOOD, Wash. – January 20, 2009 – Crane Aerospace & Electronics, a Crane Co. segment, is demonstrating their new SmartStem® Tire Pressure Indication Technology at their booth at the MRO Middle East Conference (stand 223). The system provides fast and dependable wireless tire pressure measurement, reducing maintenance costs, improving safety, and extending tire life. In addition, the system is easily installed, allowing for reduced cost of ownership.
Using SmartStem wireless technology, the system operates by replacing the aircraft’s existing tire inflation valve stem with a wireless valve stem that senses and communicates tire pressure, temperature, and other stored information to a control unit onboard the aircraft or to a handheld reader. At the MRO Middle East Conference, Crane will be introducing their newest handheld reader which features an integrated display of tire pressure and temperature.
The SmartStem system is flight proven on Boeing’s 777, which has incorporated SmartStem technology in Crane’s Tire and Brake Monitoring System on all new-production 777 aircraft since May 2007. In addition, it is currently being developed by Crane for the Brake Control and Monitoring System for the Boeing 787. Last year, Crane was selected by Cessna Aircraft Company to provide the SmartStem system for aftermarket installations on most Cessna business jets including the Sovereign and Citation X aircraft. The SmartStem Tire Pressure Indication System is currently in certification for several commercial platforms and is also being tailored for the military market.
